Apex Construct has garnered some strong traction thanks to players mistakenly purchasing the game thinking it’s Apex Legends.
The most recent phenomenon in the battle royale genre, Apex Legends is a free-to-play game that has attracted an impressive 25 million players in its first week. However, thanks to the soaring popularity of the game, there has been an unexpected byproduct of mistaken identity.
Apex Construct, available for $29.99 on Steam is a single player VR title launched in 2018. Since the growth of Apex Legends, it has seen its own game pageviews grow by a whopping 4,000 percent. In addition, Apex Construct’s sales in one week have already surpassed that of the entire year of 2018. Apparently, fans of the game title Apex Legends especially in China, are unaware that the game is free-to-play, and are even happy to pay for the game due to popularity alone.
Developers Fast Travel Games seemingly have accommodated the mishap in good spirits, but there has been a large sour note that has rippled by due to the mistaken game identity. Players are presently leaving heaps of negative reviews on Steam because the game is not Apex Legends. There’s much confusion going around which has led to Steam officials addressing the matter and will hopefully identify a way to bring more transparency between the two game titles.
