Mecha, Mafia and Cosmic Skins
If you haven’t heard already, there is a new game mode released this patch with a brand new map, Nexus Blitz.
Nexus Blitz is a new experimental game mode that’s available for four weeks. The duration is four weeks so there is enough time to iron out bugs, make tweaks and adjustments as it’s only in alpha stage. What you see and experience will likely change when it is fully released.
Are you ready for duo jungle? Nexus Blitz enables you to do just that with a typical set up consisting of 3 laners and two junglers. This is also a 5v5 matchmade game like Summoners Rift and ARAM.
The brand new map looks like a semi-circle, with a river flowing right down the middle splitting the two teams. Each Nexus is at each corner, top left and top right with a labyrinthine jungle in between. Two lane almost side by side with one another curves around near the outer edge with several bushes for you to hide. Look at the new map here.
Nexus Blitz Gameplay
At a quick glance, you would assume it’s an alternative version of Twisted Treeline. You would be wrong. When you first enter the match, it does feel like you are just playing on a different map. The only obstacle is knowing the layout Nexus Blitz with turrets in the middle of the jungle, bushes scattered around every corner. Suddenly there is chaos, randomness and confusion.
At set intervals, during the match, a random objective appears in the middle of your screen detailing tasks you need to complete. I say need, as whatever the tasks are, you are competing against the other team and you or anyone doesn’t like to lose. One objective could be the scuttle crab race, remember the river I mentioned that goes right down the middle, well that is the racetrack for the scuttle crabs. You need to slow down your enemies scuttle crab be hitting, stunning, rooting or anything you can throw at it and whoever team scuttle crab get to the finishing line first is the winners
Now for more randomness, whichever team manages to complete their task first is rewarded with buffs. These buffs are not like your traditional buffs, they are random, unique and give the victors massive advantage. One buff you may receive gives your turrets and your cannon minions a Blitz’s arm grab. Yes, you have read it correctly, a Blitz arm grab. Whenever your enemy gets close to one of the cannon minions or turret, it fires the Blitz arm grabbing your enemies just as if you were playing again Blitz himself. This particular buff duration lasts until the match finishes, which is insane.
Throughout the game, you will receive further objectives just as random as the first task, a snowball fight can break out and your Summoner spells are switched to snowballs. There is an unlimited supply of snowballs, so you need to be ready to start spamming at those buttons.
In this particular case the winners of the tasks didn’t receive a buff, instead, the losers minions became cursed for 3 minutes. Cursed minions are spawned with only 1 hp making it easy for your enemies to clear the wave of minions.
Are you a fan of Overwatch or Fortnite? Two objectives are based from these popular game titles. Push the payload you will need to aid the payload towards your enemies team nexus which is based from Overwatch. Bardle Royale idea is from Fortnite where a ring of fire quickly get smaller and smaller, making your area of fighting so small that a massive brawl takes place.
Further, the time elapses, the chaotic it becomes. With several buffs activated and some debuffs, you need to keep track and be alert at everything going on whilst trying to compete in various objectives. There are times you are focusing on all these things, you didn’t realise that your nexus has uprooted and joined in the fight. Yes, this happens too.
You can see how exciting this game mode is, as each game you enter will be different every time you play.
