Research Breakthrough Changes

Starting from 1st May 2019 1:00 p.m. PDT (GMT – 7) right through to the end of June, players will be able to complete Professor Willow’s research tasks obtained from Spinning PokéDisc at nearby PokéStops. After completing several tasks, you will discover a Research Breakthrough, and through your hard work, you’ll be rewarded with an encounter with a Legendary Pokémon.

The flying Legendary Pokémon you will encounter will be between Ho-Oh, Lugia, Latias and Latios. Both Latias and Latios have recently returned to Pokémon Go as Raid Boss, so you may have already added them to your Pokédex already. However, capturing more wouldn’t hurt as you will gain Pokémon Candy to help you level up your Pokémon, making them strong for those gym battles.

If you need Ho-Oh or the Psychic Flying-type Lugia, both have a very strong defence for gym runs, now would be the perfect time to get them. Repeating the tasks will allow you to encounter the Flying-type Legendaries again which is useful to obtain Pokémon Candy.
