Mario Kart Tour Mobile Breaks Records With Over 90 Million Downloads in First Week

Newest mobile game from Nintendo is taking the world by storm as 90 million users rush to download and play Mario Kart Tour. Making it Nintendo’s biggest mobile game launch to date.

After many years of users urging Nintendo to bring their exclusive Mario games to mobile, Nintendo have finally conceded in 2016 with Super Mario Run. Due to the success of Super Mario Run, it prompted Nintendo to release other popular Mario game titles like Dr Mario World, Nintendo’s spin on the infamous Tetris game and now Mario Kart Tour.

Since the revolutionary iPhone debut in 2007, mobile gaming has increased tenfolds and has become one of the popular devices to play games on. Nintendo was very reluctant to port or develop their popular game titles to the mobile industry as they were focusing on keeping the game exclusive to their own console and devices. Prompting users to buy Nintendo’s hardware in order to play hit games like Mario.

Nine years later, Nintendo finally succumbed to the amount of demand to bring their games to the mobile gaming industry. Nintendo finally released Miitomo in 2016, A social networking game and like most mobile games, used a freemium structure, where users can purchase extra content and features with in-app purchases.

Later on in the year, December 2016, Nintendo released their first major hit game on Android and IOS with Super Mario Run. The game became a huge success ranking in $28.2 million within its first week of being launch. Now 2019, Nintendo has released two more Mario themed games to mobile with the release of Dr Mario World and the new release game, Mario Kart Tour.

Mario Kart Tour

Mario Kart Tour is based on Super Mario Kart which first debuted in 1992 on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). The game was a global hit and has since seen the racing driving game expand onto every Nintendo Console and devices with various titles such as Mario Kart 64, Mario Kart DS, Mario Kart 8 and so on. However, an iteration of the game has yet to reach mobile devices powered by Android and IOS, until now.

Released last week, the game has since gone on to shatter their previous record of 13 million downloads and has reached a staggering 90 million downloads. Making it currently the number 1 mobile game. However, in term of profit, it is only Nintendo third-biggest games, behind Fire Emblem Heroes and Super Mario Run respectively.

The multiplayer racing game is free to download for IOS.

Both Android and IOS user also require a Nintendo Account.

There is an optional Gold Pass subscription costing $4.99 a month that offer exclusive in-game items, badges and new 200cc mode. But before you go ahead and purchase, users will be able to try the Gold Pass out with Nintendo two-week free trial.
