Since withdrawing from the Overwatch League Christopher “MonteCristo” Mykles will produce content exclusively with Cloud9. MonteCristo revealed in a video posted on his twitter page that he will create content with C9 as well as partner with them to produce innovative esport products set to be announced soon.

MonteCristo fulfilled an important role in the development of the Overwatch League as an esport, but quit to “pursue further career growth,” when “irreconcilable creative and philosophical differences” occurred between him and the current leadership of the League.

MonteCristo is not the first caster to depart, au contraire. Many have jumped ships to go freelancing and seek other opportunities. Despite the OWL’s stable viewing numbers, it’s clear that there are management issues or even burnout from the game itself. In addition, there have moreover been rumors of all casters having to take a pay cut if they would like to stay on.

Chris Puckett, Erik “DoA” Lonnquist, Auguste “Semmler” Massonnat and Malik Forté will also not be returning for the 2020 season of the OWL. Naturally, the OWL will soldier on, however, these mass exits have sure raised some alarm bells.
