NBA2K has gathered many conflicting emotions from gamers this year, particularly as it has continued to defy shifting consumer attitudes towards loot boxes and gambling by doubling down on those aspects of the game. The game has slot machines in it, which in a basketball sim seem rather out of place. Notwithstanding the blowback from the core players, NBA2K has gone on to be the best-selling title in the United States.
However, not only for the month since it was released on 6 September. Indeed, it’s currently the year-round best-selling title, and hitting the mark took the game only a month. This ensures the new annualized version of the astoundingly successful basketball game now has the largest launch month revenue of any sports game in the U.S. ever.
It comes ahead of Mortal Kombat 11 in second place and Borderlands 3 (also released in September) in third which is another 2K-published game.
Here’s a look at the best-selling games of the year to date in the US.
- NBA 2K20
- Mortal Kombat 11
- Borderlands 3
- Madden NFL 20
- Kingdom Hearts III
- Tom Clancy’s The Division 2
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
- Resident Evil 2
- Grand Theft Auto V
