Nintendo’s third-quarter earnings are out, demonstrating that between July and September the company sold 4.8 million Switch consoles, a rise of just over 50 percent year-on-year. As of September 30th, 41.67 million units have sold in total, respectfully suggesting the Switch will almost definitely surpass the SNES this holiday season to become Nintendo’s second most popular games console ever.

The Switch Lite contributed to the 4.8 million sells by accounting for 1.95 million units sold. Due to exclusive titles like The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening selling over 3 million units, game sales also increased by 48 percent. Operating profit increased over the same quarter to $615 million, higher than the estimates.

In terms of sales, the Switch has demolished the Wii U’s 13.56 million, the GameCube’s 21.74 million, and the Nintendo 64’s 32.94 units sold, and is on course to pass both the SNES’s 49.10 million and the NES’s 61.91. Typically given the upcoming holiday season and the release of the highly anticipated Pokemon Sword and Shield games, it shouldn’t take long.
