Pokemon Sword and Shield’s Starter Pokemon Announced

At long last, the wait is over! Today Nintendo and The Pokemon Company revealed their upcoming eighth generation title Pokemon Sword and Shield for the Nintendo Switch. During today’s Pokemon Direct presentation, we also got our first look at the brand-new starter Pokemon.

Keeping with tradition, players will be presented with a choice of three Pokemon to aid them on their quest in Sword and Shield. Typically, players will have the choice between Fire, Water, and Grass-type Pokemon and Pokemon Sword and Shield is no different. The starter Pokemon options this time around will be the Fire-type Scorbunny, Grass-Type Grookey, and the water-type Sobble. Check them out below.

During the reveal, we did not get to witness any more new Pokemon but we did get to see a quick glance at some of the returning Pokemon. Set in the Galar region many Sun and Moon Pokemon could be spotted throughout the teaser.

Sword and Shield are taking the game back to its more traditional roots. From all footage revealed so far, it would seem that players can battle wild Pokemon and then capture, unlike the Let’s Go series. We’ll equally see Sword and Shield bringing back Gyms which have been missing since before Sun and Moon.

Before Tsunekazu Ishihara, The Pokemon Company President concluded the presentation, he teased that more was in the works regarding the Pokemon brand this year. You can expect to see Pokemon Sword and Shield Launch in later 2019 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
