Teamfight Tactics Receives Its First Update in LoL Patch 9.14

All-new features, bug fixes and changes made to LoL popular game mode TFT

New champion Twisted Fate, Ranked Matches, New Damage Indicator and More

With their successful take on Auto Chess-like game, Teamfight Tactics will be taking their auto battling game mode to the next level with its first official patch, bringing new features, changes and tweaks to several champions. If you have played TFT during patch 9.14, you may have noticed there is a new Pirate champion added to the roster.

TFT Patch Notes will be excluded from LoL patch notes as the alternative game mode will have their very own patch notes. In the next few months, due to its beta status, TFT will see fundamental changes whether it is adding or removing features, bug fixing or tweaking and balancing the game, Riot Games will continue to tirelessly work to expand and provide the best gaming experience possible.

Unlike normal LoL patch notes that typically come on a bi-weekly schedule, patch notes for TFT will be issued every week. Patch notes scheduled at the same time as League Of Legends patch will contain major changes, enhancements, etc. whereas a lighter b side will focus on balance change or emergent bugfixes on the second week.

Let’s take a look at the changes made in TFT in patch 9.14.


Twisted Fate Added


Teamfight Tactics have now added their first new champion to the game mode, Twisted Fate. The magician’s traits are Pirate and Sorcerer who has the ability to choose one of three cards and activate the effect of the card.

Twisted Fate can choose between Red, Gold or Blue.

  • Red – Deals AOE damage to the target and the area around them.
  • Blue – Restores mana to himself and allies around him.
  • Gold – Stun the target for a few seconds, making them unable to move or attack.

Being a Tier 2 Champion, Twisted Fate will cost 2 gold to add to your team.

TFT Ranked

From now on, players will be able to play Ranked TFT games. Just like normal Ranked matches, each player is ranked by their performance. Starting in Iron rank and ending up in Challenger if you keep on defeating your opponents.

Ranking up through the ranks will appear a lot faster with TFT as you gain more LP per game or fall through ranks as you lose LP. The increase of LP per game is due to the fact you will be playing against seven opponents where there can only be one victor.

However, you can still earn LP by finishing anywhere within the top 4 places. Anything lower than 4th you will lose LP.

Ranked rewards are yet to be finalized and are still working to a final solution. Riot Games have stated, “they’ll most likely be different from the Summoner’s Rift ranked rewards“.

Damage Tracker


A much-needed feature is added to TFT in patch 9.14, a Damage Tracker known as combat recap which helps keep track of all your champions damages.

This useful feature will help identify which champions are strong and which are weak. However, there are still a number of contributing factors you need to consider.

For instance, the champion who is deemed weak may be placed in a wrong position on the TFT board or that champion just doesn’t work well with the team current composition.

At least you can now use the damage tracker tool to make changes to your team and your current strategy to try and succeed at becoming the last one standing.


PvE Rounds


Riot Games have added a contingency plan for players who do not get any items when battling again the minions in the Neutral Rounds. If they fail to receive an item, players will receive gold instead.

TFT Streak Indicator


In TFT, players are rewarded with bonus gold interests based on their streaks, whether they are on a losing streak or winning streak.

Up until now, players have had no indication on how much bonus gold they currently get each round or what their streak was currently at.

There is now a Streak indicator at the bottom of the screen providing details when you hovered with your mouse. It will show you the different bonus interest rate you will gain for each round with each winning streak tier. Your current streak will be highlighted and will show you how much bonus gold you will receive at the end of the round.
