Adjusting to the current meta in TFT is crucial. Just like the core League of Legends game mode, knowing what works and what doesn’t will provide a profound impact on the outcome of your games. Teamfight Tactics offers a diverse range of champions, items, and traits which is rapidly expanding. Our TFT Best builds guide will steer you through some great team comps that will help you do better in Teamfight Tactics ranked ladder.

After each major patch, we’ll provide five great TFT builds that are perfect for ranked play. Keep in mind, while the builds below perform superbly in Teamfight Tactics, they do not guarantee a win. Many factors will contribute to how successful each build performs. If, for example, you’re unable to acquire a certain unit or item due to RnG the build will not perform as expected.

TFT 9.18 Builds

Void Assassins

TFT Build Overview

  • Evelynn: Deals damage to the 3 closest enemies, briefly roots them, and teleports away. Damage is increased against low health enemies.
  • Kha’Zix: Slashes the closest enemy, dealing bonus damage to enemies that are alone.
  • Rengar: Leaps to the weakest enemy, gaining Attack Speed and Critical Strike Chance.
  • Cho’Gath: Ruptures an area, stunning and damaging enemies inside of it.
  • Pyke: Dashes behind the furthest enemy, creating an afterimage that stuns enemies it passes through.
  • Zed: Throws a shuriken, dealing damage to enemies in a line.
  • Kassadin: Attacks steal mana from enemies, converting it into a shield.

Build Strategy

This team comp is focused around Kassadin. Turning him into an Assassin with Youmuu’s Ghostblade is essential, however, this build can be adjusted with Regnar becoming the carry or even having Cho’Gath become an Assassin. For this overview we’ll concentrate on Kassadin carry.

The aim is to acquire a three-star Kassadin before you reach level 5, ideally, you’ll also pick up Pyke, Kha’Zix, and Zed as three stars too providing you have managed your economy correctly. Try to save your gold up until the cusp of level 5, then hunt for your tier 1 & 2 units as chances of them showing are at there peak. Akali can be used as a replacement Ninja / Assassin instead of Zed, although Zed is cheaper and easier to get three stars. Rapid Firecannon and Ghostblade are strongly recommended for Kassadin, with the third item choice being a little more flexible. I personally have far more success with Infinity Edge than any other item.

Note: You may have seen this build used quite a lot already due to its rise in popularity. This may hinder how well this comp performs, so keep an eye on your opponent’s builds and adjust accordingly.

TFT Build Overview

  • Varus: Charges and fires an arrow, dealing damage to all enemies in a line.
  • Sejuani: Creates a large glacial storm, stunning enemies within it after a short delay.
  • Ashe: Fires an arrow that stuns and damages the farthest enemy. The stun is longer the farther the enemy.
  • Vayne: Deals bonus true damage every third attack based on the enemy’s maximum health.
  • Kindred: Creates a zone around herself that prevents allies from dying.
  • Mordekaiser: Slams his mace in front him, dealing damage to two enemies in a line.
  • Swain: Transforms, draining health from all nearby enemies. At the end of his transformation, Swain sends out a burst of energy dealing damage to nearby enemies.

Build Strategy

The core Champions for this build are Varus, Sejuani, Ashe, Vayne, Kindred and Mordekaiser. Combine these six with any champions of your choice, I usually grab a swain if possible but a pair of guardians are also a good choice.

For this build to work you’ll need to pick up the newly buffed Sword Breaker item and pair it with items that boost your attack speed. Any Ranger can be your team’s carry, providing you itemize Sword Breaker and attack speed.

Shapeshifters

TFT Build Overview

  • Nidalee: Heals herself and the weakest ally, then transforms gaining Attack Damage.
  • Shyvana: Dashes and transforms, gaining Attack Damage and Attack Range. When transformed, her attacks set enemies on fire.
  • Elise: Summons Spiderlings and transforms, gaining Lifesteal.
  • Pantheon: Leaps in the air, crashing down towards the farthest enemy, stunning them. Enemies in Pantheon’s path take a percentage of their Maximum Health as Magic Damage. They then burn for an additional 20% of their Maximum Health as True Damage over 10 seconds. Applies Grievous Wounds.
  • Leona: Calls down a solar ray that damages and slows enemies inside it. The enemy in the center is stunned.
  • Jayce: Knocks away an enemy in melee range, dealing damage and stunning them. He then transforms his hammer into a cannon, increasing his attack range and gaining a burst of attack speed.
  • Gnar: Transforms, gaining Health, Attack Damage and jumping behind the furthest enemy, damaging and stunning enemies nearby.
  • Swain: Transforms, draining health from all nearby enemies. At the end of his transformation, Swain sends out a burst of energy dealing damage to nearby enemies.

Build Strategy

Your typical Shapeshifters team comp, great in patch 9.17 and still performs fantastic in TFT patch 9.18. Shapeshifters are durable, sticky units that can withstand considerable damage. Using items like Warmogs and Guardian Angel will bolster their shifted form making them a nightmare to deal with!

Wild Sorcerers

  • Shyvana: Dashes and transforms, gaining Attack Damage and Attack Range. When transformed, her attacks set enemies on fire.
  • Rengar: Leaps to the weakest enemy, gaining Attack Speed and Critical Strike Chance.
  • Poppy: Swings her hammer, damaging and knocking up the closest enemies.
  • Ahri: Fires an orb in a line that returns to her, damaging enemies it passes through.
  • Aurelion Sol: Breathes a large blast of fire in a line, dealing damage to enemies.
  • Gnar: Transforms, gaining Health, Attack Damage and jumping behind the furthest enemy, damaging and stunning enemies nearby.
  • Kennen: Summons a storm around him, dealing damage and stunning enemies inside of it.

Build Strategy

Sorcerers have generally been underused in patch 9.18 due to the release of Pantheon and Dragon trait negating magic damage. However, the build above utilizes many meta traits rounded out by securing the sorcerer trait with Yuumi on Gnar. Strong AOE and flexibility allows this team comp to thrive, in addition, Ahri can viably hold many meta item which can then be passed onto other champions if you choose to drop her. Warmogs and Guardian Angel are also strong, optional items to build for your Shapeshifters.

Bladeslinger

TFT Build Overview

  • Draven: Gains bonus on-hit damage and Attack Speed. Stacks up to two times.
  • Yasuo: Stabs forward, damaging and applying on-hit effects to two enemies in a line. On third cast, Yasuo instead launches a tornado dealing damage and knocking up enemies in a line.
  • Camille: singles out an enemy, dealing magic damage and rooting them for a few seconds. Camille’s team will prioritize attacking that enemy.
  • Gangplank: Periodically creates barrels. On cast, Gangplank detonates the barrels, damaging and applying on-hit effects to nearby enemies.
  • Shen: Creates a zone around himself, allowing allies to dodge all attacks.
  • Miss Fortune: Channels and fires several waves of bullets in a cone.
  • Jinx: Gets excited as she participates in kills, first gaining attack speed and then pulling out her rocket launcher.
  • Lucian: Dashes away to safety and attacks an enemy twice, once with Attack Damage and once with Spell Damage.

Build Strategy

One of the most enjoyable builds is still super strong in League of Legends TFT 9.18. Blademasters and Gunslingers inherently sync with each other, providing multiple hits per auto attacks allows items like Hush, Cursed Blade and Sword Breaker to shut down entire teams. For optimal results, you’ll need to turn Lucian into a Blademaster using Blade of the Ruin King item. The same type of items can also be given to jinx to ensure the rapid dismantle of the enemy team.
