Adjusting to the current meta in TFT is crucial. Just like the core League of Legends game mode, knowing what works and what doesn’t will provide a profound impact on the outcome of your games. Teamfight Tactics offers a diverse range of champions, items, and traits which is rapidly expanding. Our TFT Best builds guide will steer you through some great team comps that will help you do better in Teamfight Tactics ranked ladder.

After each major patch, we’ll provide five great TFT builds that are perfect for ranked play. Keep in mind, while the builds below perform superbly in Teamfight Tactics, they do not guarantee victory. Many factors will contribute to how successful each build performs. If, for example, you’re unable to acquire a certain unit or item due to RnG the build will not perform as expected.

League of Legends TFT 9.20 prompts minor changes compared to the last patch, which hasn’t impacted the meta nearly as much. We do, however, experience a surge in tanky traits once more, Knights and Brawler that can affect some of the TFT builds popular in 9.19. Below are the Top 5 Best TFT Builds to help you climb the rank ladder.

TFT Build Overview

  • Warwick: Pounces onto the lowest health enemy, stunning them for 1.5s, damaging them and healing himself. Applies on-hit effects.
  • Blitzcrank: Pulls the furthest enemy to him and stuns them for 2.5s.
  • Cho’gath: Ruptures an area, stunning and damaging enemies inside of it.
  • Jinx: Gets excited as participates in kills: On her first takedown, she gains attack speed. On her second, she swaps to her rocket launcher causing her attacks to deal bonus area damage.
  • Lucian: Dashes away to safety and attacks an enemy twice, once with Attack Damage and once with Spell Damage.
  • Rek’Sai: Burrows for a short duration becoming untargetable and healing. When Rek’Sai unburrows she deals damage and knocks up the closest enemy for 1.75s.
  • Vi: Charges down the furthest enemy, knocking aside anyone in her way. When she reaches her target, she deals magic damage and knocks them up. Other enemies knocked aside take the same damage.
  • Volibear: Empowers his attacks to chain between enemies, applying on-hit effects.

Traits

6 Brawlers – 2 Gunslingers – 2 Hextech – 2 Void – 1 Robot

Carries

Jinx and Lucian

TFT 9.20 Build Tips

  • To ensure this build doesn’t fall off late game, you must stack your Gunslingers with strong offensive items – Infinity edge, Giant Slayer, Hush remain great options. Additionally, you can stack Ionic Sparks on Blitzcrank.
  • Scout your opponents so that you can move your Blitzcrank to be most effective. Place Jinx nearby so that she can pick up an early kill assist.

Imperial Knights

TFT Build Overview

  • Darius: Swings his axe, damaging nearby enemies and healing himself based off enemies hit.
  • Draven: Gains bonus on-hit damage and Attack Speed. Stacks up to two times.
  • Katarina: Channels and fires daggers at a number of nearby enemies, dealing damage and reducing healing by 80%.
  • Kayle: Shields the weakest ally, making them immune to damage.
  • Mordekaiser: Slams his mace in front him, dealing damage to two enemies in a line.
  • Poppy: Swings her hammer, damaging and knocking up the closest enemies.
  • Sejuani: Creates a large glacial storm, stunning enemies within it after a short delay.
  • Swain: Transforms, draining health from all nearby enemies. At the end of his transformation, Swain sends out a burst of energy dealing damage to nearby enemies.

Traits

6 Knights – 4 Imperial

Carries

Main: Draven
Secondary: Swain – Katarina

TFT 9.20 Build Tips

  • For you to acquire 6 Knights you’ll have to convert a unit using the Knight’s Vow. I’d recommend Swain as losing an item slot has less impact than the other non-Knight units.
  • Draven’s items are vital for him to carry your team endgame.
  • Position using your tanky Knights as bait on the sides whilst keeping Draven more central.

Glacial Shifters

  • Ashe: Fires an arrow that stuns and damages the farthest enemy. The stun is longer the farther the enemy.
  • Gnar: Transforms, gaining Health, Attack Damage and jumping behind the furthest enemy, damaging and stunning enemies nearby.
  • Lissandra: Encases the target in ice, dealing damage to nearby enemies. Below half HP, Lissandra instead encases herself, becoming untargetable.
  • Anivia: Channels a large hailstorm, damaging and slowing the attack speed of enemies inside of it.
  • Sejuani: Creates a large glacial storm, stunning enemies within it after a short delay.
  • Nidalee: Heals herself and the weakest ally, then transforms gaining Attack Damage.

4 Glacial – 2 Wild – 3 Shapeshifter

Carries

Ashe, Swain, Shyvanna

TFT 9.20 Build Tips

  • Multiple units can carry within this team composition. Itemise in favor of your chosen carry.
  • Look to replace Nidalee with Swain end game.

NINJA ELEMENTALIST

  • Shen: Creates a zone around himself, allowing allies to dodge all attacks.
  • Zed: Throws a shuriken, dealing damage to enemies in a line.
  • Lissandra: Encases the target in ice, dealing damage to nearby enemies. Below half HP, Lissandra instead encases herself, becoming untargetable.
  • Akali: Throws shurikens in front of her, dealing damage.
  • Brand: Launches a bouncing fireball, damaging enemies hit.
  • Kennen: Summons a storm around him, dealing damage and stunning enemies inside of it.

Traits

3 Elementalist – 4 Ninja – 3 Assassin

Carries

Lissandra

TFT 9.20 Build Tips

Ninja Elementalist functions just like it did in patch 9.19, however, this time around instead of investing our items into Kennen or Akali, we’ll instead optimise Lissandra’s items to carry! She’s an incredibly resilient unit especially paired with a Guardian angel plus she can dish out large damage for such an early unit.

  • Akali: Throws shurikens in front of her, dealing damage.
  • Jayce: Knocks away an enemy in melee range, dealing damage and stunning them. He then transforms his hammer into a cannon, increasing his attack range and gaining a burst of attack speed.
  • Rengar: leaps to the weakest enemy, gaining Attack Speed and Critical Strike Chance.

Trait

4 Wild – 2 Brawlers – 2 Hextech – 3 Assassins – 3 Shapeshifters – 1 Ninja

TFT 9.20 Build Tips

Patch 9.20 gave slight nerfs to Akali, Assassins and Infinity Edge, but don’t let that deter you from trying this build out. It’s still very strong and Akali continues to have strong carry potential. With the addition of VI and Jayce, we still receive our shapeshifter trait but also gain Hextech and Brawler!
